Friendship Camp — Chase, Interior BC, CanadaFriendship Camp — BC 내륙 Chase

Before we ever flew abroad, we started close to home. Wings for Smiles partners with local communities in Interior British Columbia to bring portable dental care to children, youth, and families who would otherwise wait months for a visit. Our first “Friendship Camp” took us to Chase — a small town in Secwépemc territory — where we set up a pop-up clinic in the community gym alongside bingo nights, foot massages, and a reception desk run by neighbours. 해외로 날아가기 전, 우리는 가까운 곳에서 먼저 시작했습니다. 미소의 날개는 BC 내륙의 지역사회와 손잡고, 진료를 받기까지 몇 달을 기다려야 하는 어린이·청소년·가족들에게 이동식 진료를 제공합니다. 우리의 첫 ‘Friendship Camp’는 Secwépemc 원주민 영토에 위치한 작은 마을 Chase에서 열렸고, 마을 체육관에 임시 진료소를 차려 빙고 게임·발 마사지·이웃들이 운영하는 접수대와 함께 어우러졌습니다.

Old Crow, Yukon — Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation유콘 Old Crow — Vuntut Gwitchin 원주민 공동체

Beyond the Arctic Circle, the village of Old Crow can only be reached by air. Wings for Smiles flew in with a small clinical team to provide oral health care and education for elders and children of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation — Canada’s northernmost dental outreach in our short history. 북극권 너머, 항공편으로만 닿을 수 있는 마을 Old Crow. 미소의 날개는 Vuntut Gwitchin 원주민 공동체의 어르신과 어린이들을 위해 직접 비행기를 타고 들어가 구강 검진과 보건 교육을 진행했습니다 — 우리 단체가 진행한 가장 북쪽 봉사 현장입니다.

Aviator Dental Hygiene

Wings for Smiles is rooted in Aviator Dental Hygiene, an independent practice in British Columbia, Canada (Burnaby & Langley). Aviator runs free check-up days, oral-health education workshops, and complimentary scaling on National Truth and Reconciliation Day for Indigenous communities — a spirit we are now planning to extend to more communities and regions. 미소의 날개는 캐나다 BC주(Burnaby·Langley)에 위치한 Aviator Dental Hygiene 클리닉을 모체로 합니다. Aviator는 무료 검진의 날, 구강 보건 교육 워크숍, 그리고 진실과 화해의 날(National Truth and Reconciliation Day)에 원주민 공동체를 위한 무료 스케일링을 운영해왔으며, 그 정신을 다른 지역에도 확장하려고 계획하고 있습니다.

VOLUNTEER자원봉사 Do I need to be a licensed hygienist or dentist to volunteer? 자원봉사하려면 치과위생사나 치과의사 자격이 꼭 필요한가요?

No. Licensed hygienists and dentists are at the core of every mission, but we also need students-in-training, translators (Korean / English / local languages), photographers, logistics coordinators, and general support volunteers. Tell us your skills and availability — we’ll find a role that fits. 아니요. 자격을 가진 치과위생사·치과의사가 봉사단의 중심이지만, 실습 중인 학생, 통역 (한국어·영어·현지어), 사진·기록, 운영, 일반 지원 봉사자도 함께 필요합니다. 보유하신 역량과 가능한 일정을 알려주시면 맞는 역할을 함께 찾습니다.

VOLUNTEER자원봉사 How long is a typical mission trip, and where do trips happen? 봉사단 파견은 보통 얼마나 길고, 어디로 가나요?

Most overseas trips run 2–3 weeks. Our domestic outreaches in BC and Yukon range from a single weekend to about one week. Destinations rotate based on partner readiness — recent and upcoming sites include Chase (BC interior, Secwépemc territory), Old Crow (Yukon, Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation), and outreach sites in Southeast Asia. 해외 파견은 보통 2~3주입니다. BC와 유콘 국내 봉사는 주말 1회부터 약 1주일까지 다양합니다. 현지 파트너 상황에 따라 일정이 정해지며, 최근·예정 현장으로는 Chase (BC 내륙, Secwépemc 영토), Old Crow (유콘, Vuntut Gwitchin 원주민 공동체), 동남아시아 봉사 현장 등이 있습니다.

This varies by trip. Wings for Smiles covers in-field logistics, supplies, and local transport at the destination. International airfare and personal travel insurance are typically the volunteer’s responsibility, with partial subsidy available for licensed clinicians on long deployments. One sponsored clinic day typically supports: chairside supplies (sterilization, instruments, fluoride and sealant materials), local staff stipends, transport to the site, and a meal for the team. Each sponsored day is matched to a specific outreach and reported back to the sponsor with photos and a short summary after the visit. 후원하신 진료일 1회는 보통 다음 항목을 지원합니다: 체어사이드 재료 (멸균, 기구, 불소·실런트 재료), 현지 인력 사례비, 현장 이동비, 봉사단 한 끼 식사. 각 후원 진료일은 특정 봉사 현장과 1:1로 연결되며, 다녀온 후 사진과 간단한 요약을 후원자분께 보고드립니다.
